Cthulhu Crochet Figures

If you’d asked me when I was a kid if I liked horror things, I’d have told you no. I’d have said this in spite of: about a million R.L. Stine books, a lot of Christopher Pike books, several Vampire anthologies, an unhealthy obsession with Edgar Allen Poe; I checked out every single book on ghost stories in the school library, and cultivated a joy of even really bad horror movies. In fact, when I played with my Barbies I would often use them to enact really horrific stories. You know – beheadings, hauntings, demon exorcism … But still, I didn’t like horror. (I grew out of this when I discovered Stephen King in high school.)

This is probably why I didn’t discover H.P. Lovecraft until a few years ago. There were all these Cthulhu images all over, and my boss was really into Lovecraft – so I did my research and found something new that I could enjoy, this slow creeping wordy sort of horror that had its own interesting ideas. And I got interested in all things Cthulhu. Which is how I came across Cthulhu Chick.

Cthulhu Chick crochets Cthulhu figures. Little, adorable Cthulhus. She crochets them in a variety of colors, and she also has a few different types that she crochets: there’s a Cylon Cthulhu, a Chef Cthulhu, a Baby Cthulhu, and more. She accepts commissions and you can pick out whatever color you like, although special requests may take some time. These Cthulhu crochet “dolls” have all kinds of uses: they can guard computers, perch on your shelf and shoot adorably malevolent glares, end the world …

Crochet Lightsaber Pattern

As a person of the crocheting persuasion, I often find myself browsing Etsy in a hunt for new patterns to use. (Okay, actually I browse Etsy looking for things I would buy if I were a millionaire.) I love learning how to make new things, and this looks like a little project that wouldn’t take much time to whip up in a hurry.

This adorable little “Lazer Sword” pattern was originally designed for a cat toy, but it surely can be adjusted to be used as a key fob, or you could put little magnets on them and have “lazer swords” on your fridge! You could give them to your gerbils and stage tiny Jedi battles! Okay you probably couldn’t do that last one but everything else stands.

“Luuuuuuuke, I am your feline …”

If you have been looking for new things to make with your mad crocheting skills, this is an inexpensive and fun addition to your repertoire.
